Surgery

Your pet may be referred to SASH for a specific operation where your veterinarian feels the expertise of a specialist is required. Examples of this include knee reconstruction, spinal and brain surgery or chest surgery.

Your vet may also refer you to the surgery service to diagnose your pet's condition such as a lameness problem. In cases of cancer management, the medicine and surgery staff work together to provide you with all the information you need to make the best decision on the treatment required for you and your pet.

Surgery at SASH comprises two Specialist Small Animal Surgeons; Drs. Andrew Marchevsky, Eugene Buffa and Resident Dr. Andrew Dunn.

Part of successful recovery from surgery is excellent pain relief and nursing. SASH is staffed by vets and nurses 24 hours a day so you can be assured your pet is receiving the best possible care to result in a speedy and comfortable recovery. Dr. Colin Dunlop (Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia) consults on anaesthesia and pain management at SASH. At SASH we feel we have excellent pain management strategies including epidurals and continuous intravenous pain control.

At SASH your pet also benefits from the care of the medical specialists in complex surgical cases where there may be a requirement for blood and plasma transfusions, fluid therapy, oxygen supplementation and nutritional support.

Our surgeons often utilise advanced imaging to aid in diagnosis and treatment of surgical conditions
