Dr Richard Looi

BVSc (Hons 1) MANZCVS (Small Animal Surgery)

Registrar in Surgery

(What does this mean?)

Dr Richard Looi graduated in 2015 from the University of Sydney in a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with first class honours. He worked a year and a half in a busy general practice before commencing a rotating internship at SASH to pursue his interests in surgery. He moved on to a surgery internship and then a surgical residency with SASH in 2019, in the process, obtaining Membership in Small Animal Surgery through examination.

Richard enjoys all aspects of surgery, but gets particularly excited about fracture repairs, knee surgeries, spinal surgery, abdominal/thoracic surgery, reconstructive surgery and the occasional surgery in exotic/wildlife patients when the opportunity arises.

Due to his interest in trauma and emergency medicine, on certain days off, outside the surgical theatre, you may see him consulting as an emergency veterinarian in the SASH Emergency department.

Outside of work, Richard unwinds with cooking/baking, working out in the gym and exploring restaurants around Sydney.
